The Space Colony is a private space project run by space-minded people that want to collaborate in the development of the space adventure.
Our main goal is to create a community of space-minded people that from their different professional backgrounds, wanted to make and answer key questions, solve problems and develop advanced ideas useful for future space travelers and colonists.
Also our mission would be to reenact a realistic future space colony but on Earth, so we can experiment, check and test all the future problems, hazards, risks, and challenges that the future space colonists will face in the Moon, Mars or in any satellite/moon in the Solar System.
The colony will be located in an isolated land similar to that planet/moon. We will have to choose and find an available location.
The project will select “space colonists” that will “travel” to their destination in a “fake” but realistic spacecraft, bringing all the real equipment that they will need to survive in its new home. The travel will take the real amount of time to reach the planet or moon, and then, they will have to build a new colony from zero with the materials and equipment, recreating the weather and every other condition of the planet or moon as possible. They will have to build a true colony: living habitat, agro compounds, communications, robots/rovers, laboratory, medical installations, etc. And they will have to wear the spacesuits, oxygen, etc as if they were really in space.
They will not have contact with “Earth” but with the real time delay that would have if they were there. They can’t get new material, equipment, food or any other thing from outside, but they will need to survive alone until a new “spacecraft” can arrive with new equipment after the real time it would take to send another spacecraft.
This sociologic, psycologic and technologic “experiment” will last FOR MANY YEARS. We’ll try to recreate the real living conditions in a space colony during years (but on Earth). This will give us an historical opportunity to know how people will react and live once they are really in space in the next decades or next century. They will be “space” pioneers.
Everything will be broadcasted by internet in streaming,youtube,TV...
There will be no interaction with them but as in real conditions: no help from outside (“Earth”), no hospitals, a time delay for communications, etc. Yes, it could be potentially risky, but we need to know and experiment what to do in this hard conditions.
But before beginning the “space voyage”, a lot of things must be debated and decided:
How many people will go? Who? Why? What equipment and material will carry (according to real weight available in known or foreseen spacecrafts)? What main problems will they face? How could they solve them? How are they going to live there (oxygen production, energy, food, water, waste, medical issues, etc)? Will it be a one way travel? Could they get back from there and how? How are they going to be organized? Who will be the leader and why? Are they going to be an independent nation from Earthly ones, an international UN outpost, or a national colony and from which country? Can they claim property? Which legal rules will they follow? Can they create new laws? Who will enact them? And many other questions…
We will look for new inventions, new tools, new materials, new ideas,… and put them to test in “real” conditions.
We’ll try to crowdfund or crowdlend many of them.
Some selected people will physically go to live to a "colony" (maybe more than one!), and other people (most of them) will support the colonists from “Earth” and they will help to solve their daily problems. In any case, everyone will surely find a field of interest to help the whole project to be a true success.
