I am wondering if flying is at all possible in thin atmosphere of Mars? Probably planes are out of the question, but what about baloons?

Cannot remember it correctly but last year I read something about special drones, combined with kind of "baloons"...

The air pressure is so low that you'd have to be moving terribly fast to be able to generate enough lift, or be so light that you'd break easy.

So... balloons? Atmosphere is almost pure CO2, so that should have serious influence for lighter gases inside balloon, but considering minimal density of "air", maybe they would have to be really thick?

I´ve read somewhere NASA is preparing such kind of drone for Mars so it should work...

NASA already prototyped that electric VTOL but there is somewhere also another one using some "balonets" inside the body. Also some ballon scouting was evaluated in early days, but because of poor queality of Mars Weather Service it was abandoned Mars Geoscience Aerobot
